Happiness at Your Door Steps

Happiness at Your Door Steps

Happiness depends upon ourselves.

Aristotle

Getting up in the morning by yourself or with the alarm bell at your mobile is a great event: happiness; Lord has showered on you another day of being on this planet: you are not among millions those who would never walk again: what an opportunity, you can finish the unfinished, look after your babies and ailing aged parents too, a little more.

“Shukar Hai Malik”,(O Lord thank you), the words normally uttered by us a gratitude to Him for the blessings.  Opening doors, windows and watching the plants after night had nurtured them with new flowers, leaves and buds, is so pleasure giving and so is sometimes little black sparrow that likes to eat flowers only sitting on a branch.

Preparing tea twice; once early morning before Sun Rise when morning mist is still there with crushed ginger, fresh Tulsi leaves, black pepper and sometimes salt too-when throats are not that happy, and dark brown Gur- jaggery and of course Brooke Bond Red Label Tea leaves, for myself and my life partner – mother of my two great children,is something great still greater is to enjoy it, sip by sip, in her cosy company more so in winters, sitting sometimes on the bed and other time in the little garden outside that we call it. Every sip tells a story for the day, itinerary, purchase list, reminder too for the not done yesterday and a surprise kitty party also.

Now is the time to prepare tea once again, not for us, but for the watchmen at work the previous night, four of them, three men and one Amma the next door help. Preparing and serving tea to them is nothing but the great thing is the “Ram Ram Babuji”, I love to hear, uttered by them with a broad smile that give me happiness and so is my reciprocation “Ram Ram Amma and Ram Ram Hirdey”; only one comes to fetch tea others remain at their duty point lest they are found missing: they narrate happenings of previous night some good, some bad, others naughty and romantic too, some quarrels, some hot exchanges; new babies born and some seniors leaving for good too. It is good to listen: eager they are to tell.

Fetching milk for the day has its own pluses friends, free and fair, chit-chats and sweet nothings, gossips, good mornings, Ram Ram and “Hall Chall” all for a smile and laughter broad and unbiased: the happiness consists of: without a price or cost. What more one wants to be happy.

Happiness a great wonder chased by everyone living: everyone has enough, ample, always present; a few discover and enjoy this wonder within, a medicine, a meal, a satisfaction, a bliss, a blessing, a solace, a Darshana of the Lord, the Supreme we always long for, freedom and beauty, charm and charity to self, a stress buster too. This is magic hidden within every soul. Be happy and make others happy you do not need an introduction or make-up, you glow and so the others.

“Happiness is a gift and the trick is not to expect it, but to delight in it when it comes.” - Charles Dickens

Be happy with what have and are, be generous with both, and you won’t have to hunt for happiness.

— William E. Gladstone
